This Week at Mountain View Church
January 13, 2021

A Note From Pastor Randy
We are moving toward the end of the church year, which occurs on February 28th.  With that in mind, I want to update you on several congregational tasks that are before us.

We want to celebrate the year we have just completed.  I know, celebration is not a word we normally attach to 2020 and the start of this year, but our celebration is not focused on our circumstances.  We want to acknowledge the guidance and provision of God through his people during these uneven times. Thanks for the prayers offered, volunteer hours given, financial support demonstrated, and the loving care that has gone on throughout our congregation.

We have elections to conduct as we vote on leadership for another year.  We will elect the members of our church board.  We are launching a new board to oversee Christian Education and home groups.  This elected group will be charged with keeping disciple-making a high priority in our congregation.

The church board has a budget to prepare for the new church year.  With decreases in giving, they will be confronted with decisions on how to best steward the financial gifts to our church.  They need your prayers for godly discernment.

We continue in our transition as we begin to anticipate our next pastor.  The Transition Team and the Church Board met last week to work on the pastoral profile.  A form was distributed to the congregation for input, and many of you have spoken into this vital process.  The profile will be completed soon and handed off to our district superintendent who will bring resumes for the board to consider.   In time the board will offer a recommendation to the congregation for consideration.  The membership of the church elects the next pastor.

In light of all that is going on, I want to create a couple of opportunities for clear communication.  I am inviting our people to a “church hall” meeting on Sunday, January 31, at 5:00pm. It will be a time to talk together about the processes I’ve mentioned above.  We will talk about changes and dreams for the future.  It will also serve as a venue for church leadership to hear from you.    Please put this event on your calendar and on your prayer list.

Then on Sunday, February 21, at 5:00pm, we will have our end of church year meeting.  During February we will elect officers.  This will be a night to meet our leadership, follow up on any pending matters, and celebrate the activity of God.

God is at work preparing us for our hope-filled future.  Let’s be in prayer for the hand of God to guide us.
Say “Cheese”! Do you prefer Shells & Cheese, Spirals & Cheese, or traditional Mac & Cheese?  This is our featured item for January, to be donated to the Thurston County Food Bank.  Please bring your favorite packaged item to church on Sunday or to the church office during the week (Monday-Thursday, 8:00am-4:00pm).  We will deliver all donations to the Thurston County Food Bank for distribution to families in our community. We are also continuing to collect diapers of all sizes, baby wipes, and feminine hygiene products.  Thanks for your generosity!

It’s Raining…It’s Pouring: Families from our community will be coming to our parking lot TOMORROW, Thursday, January 14, 10:00am – 1:00pm for our next distribution day with the Thurston County Food Bank. Will you join us and volunteer to help distribute food and personal care items? Our Prayer Ministry team will also have a tent set up and are available to pray with families as they drive through. To volunteer, sign up below.

Healing Hearts Ministries Bible Study: This Bible study is for women who have experienced heartache or loss and need a safe place for sharing with care and support. To sign up or for more information, please call Chaplain Luann McBride at 360-280-1332. (All calls are held in confidence.)
We are at such a critical time in our search for a pastor and it is important that we band together in our prayers. (“Again I assure you that if two of you agree on earth about anything you ask, then my Father who is in heaven will do it for you.”  Matthew 18:19 CEB). Am I the only one who struggles to stay focused in prayer? Sometimes I realize that I’ve spent my time THINKING about the issues involved more than actually PRAYING for the people and circumstances. Maybe these ideas will help you as they have me. Find a posture or place that helps you focus on God. Pray out loud so that you hear what you are saying to God. Then take time to write down what you have prayed about so that you can later document His answers. Over the next weeks, I will be sharing with you some specific ways that we can pray together.

Prayer Requests: If you have a prayer request for our Prayer Chain or pastors, please email us (churchoffice@mvcnlife.org) or call the church office (360-943-0795) Monday-Thursday, 8:00am-4:00pm.

Church Office Closed: The church office will be closed Monday, January 18 for the Martin Luther King holiday.
